Hummus
Have you heard of hummus, but never tried it?
Hummus is delicious spread/dip made of chickpeas, tahini lemon and spices. It is commonly eaten in Middle east and Mediterranean.
It is one of our favourite dips, which is prepared in couple of minutes. Hummus is a delicious appetizer which is great when you have guests over. You can keep it in airtight container for 3 – 4 days. It goes well with different kinds of veggies, pitta bread or crackers.
Hummus is so easy to make that you will never buy it again once you’ve tasted this home-made version.
Using fresh lemon if very crucial for this recipe. Lemon adds on taste and freshness.
EXTRA – it is made with real and healthy ingredients, plus it is vegan!
Ingredients
400g chickpeas, drain a chickpea and save the water. Put a tablespoon of a chickpeas on a side, for the decoration
3 teaspoons of tahini
Juice of ½ lemon
1 clove of garlic – optional
3 tablespoons olive oil
Optional: couple of tablespoons of left-over water from chickpeas – you can add it if hummus seems to be too thick for you
Salt and black pepper to taste
For decoration: fresh parsley or coriander or any kind of herbs you like
Directions
1. Blend chickpeas with garlic, tahini, olive oil and lemon juice.
2. Add salt and pepper.
3. Blend chickpeas until smooth. Add chickpea water if desired.
Hummus should be as thick as sour cream. If you think that your hummus is too thick, add little bit of chickpeas water.
You can put humus into nice bowl and decorate with little bit of olive oil, fresh herbs and left-over chickpeas.
