Sacher biscuits

If you are still in search of the perfect chocolate biscuits, we recommend that try our recipe for Sacher biscuits. Everyone heard about classic Viennese specialty called Sacher torte. We have a Sacher torte twist for you – Sacher biscuits! They are lovely and chocolatey delicious and similar to original Sacher recipe, we will use unforgettable apricot jam for the filling.

You don’t need any special culinary knowledge to make Sacher biscuits. You can use any shape of a cookie cutter (like we did) and another advantage is that you can get a help from your kids as I did. My (Zuzana’s) daughters Lily and Charlotte enjoy baking very much and they always go for their favourite cookie cutters – the cat 😊.

5g baking powder

1 teaspoon vanilla essence

130g butter cut in cubes

2 egg yolks

Apricot jam

Chocolate for the glaze

Directions

1. Mix together flour, cocoa, maizena, icing sugar and baking powder.

2. Add butter cut in cubes. Incorporate butter into flour.

3. Add egg yolk and vanilla essence. Knead the dough until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.

4. Make a ball and wrap it into to plastic foil. Put into the fridge for an hour.

Preheat oven to 180 degrees.

5. Sprinkle some flour on the kitchen counter and roll the dough. The dough should be 3-5 millimetres.

Cut out biscuits. You can also cut out a hole in the middle of every second biscuit so it will look pretty and you can also see a jam in the middle. You can also leave the biscuits plain.  Bake 13-15 minutes. The length of baking depends on your oven.

6. Spread the apricot jam on the biscuits and put a biscuit with a hole on the top. If you are a chocolate lover, you can dip these cookies in the chocolate.
