Roasted chestnuts

Do you know how to prepare roasted chestnuts?

Autumn is one of our favourite seasons. We love walking around the markets where chestnuts are roasted. You can feel it in the air…winter is coming.

The smell of roasted chestnuts is very unique and I just simply love it.

Roasted chestnuts is a popular autumn and winter street food in Europe, New York and even Asia. The season is starting at the beginning of autumn or when the first chill begins…about the end of the September or early October.

You might be surprised, but there are many recipes you can make with roasted chestnuts. Our all time favourite is chestnut risotto.

Ingredients – 500g of chestnuts – or more!

Directions

Preheat oven 220 degrees.

1. Wash your chestnuts and cut a cross in the middle.

2. Put chestnuts into the pan with water and bring to boil. Drain them straight away and set aside.

3. Put chestnuts on the baking tray and bake them for 20 mins (little to medium size). If you have big chestnuts, you can bake them for up to 23 minutes, but check them after 20 mins.

Chestnuts will come out of the shell easily and in one piece.

Roasted chestnuts are the best when they are still warm. The smell and the taste are extraordinary.
