Guinness meatballs

We are sure you already hear do of Guinness beer, but did you know that you can prepare delicious meatballs with this famous beer?

Guinness beer is perfect base for many sauces. Together with bbq sauce are perfect combination to cook with red meat.

We used beef in this recipe, but you can also find another recipe for Irish stew here, where we used typical Irish ingredient – lamb.

Guinness enriches the sauce with flavour and makes a perfect pairing with meatballs and home-made mash potatoes.  The satisfying and warm comfort of meatballs is packed with classic Irish flavours.

This Guinness Meatballs recipe is perfect fix for quick, home-made delicious dinner. Meatballs are oven baked so you have time to prepare a sauce in between.

 

Ingredients

Meatballs

500g ground beef

110ml Guinness beer

1 egg

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

2 cloves of garlic

1/2 teaspoon ground pepper

1/2 teaspoon salt

½ medium sized chopped onion

180g breadcrumbs

 

Guinness Sauce

330ml Guinness stout

2tablespoons of olive oil

140g BBQ sauce

70g honey

2 tablespoons mustard

½ medium sized onion chopped

2 cloves of garlic

1 tablespoon of brown sugar

2 – 3 tablespoons of maizena mixed with 1 tbsp sauce (depends how thick you like the sauce)

 

Directions

 

Preheat oven to 220 degrees

1. In a medium sized bowl combine beef, Worcestershire sauce, pressed garlic, pepper, diced onion, breadcrumbs, Guinness beer and an egg.

2.  Make balls and lay them on prepared baking sheet.

Bake 15-20 minutes, depending on the size of the balls (check after 15 mins if meatballs are baked through).

3.  Heat up olive oil and fry onions until golden brown and add pressed garlic. Fry for 30 seconds.

4.  Pour Guinness, BBQ sauce honey, mustard and brown sugar. Bring to a boil and let simmer 10 minutes.

5. In a small bowl, mix maizena with 1 tablespoon of sauce and pour into sauce, stirring until thickened.

6. Strain the sauce.

7. Add meatballs - coat them in the sauce. Serve.
